I'm opening a challenge. Since I know myself, I'm not doing that drabble-meme that went around... don't feel like writing drabbles.

Here's the challenge: Take any two (or more, I suppose) characters (that I know of) and say, "Write about them!" Please specify either romantically (in which case, smut or not?) or just as friends. *wry smile* Anyway, I'll write stories--JB length stories (hopefully under 10,000 words--Shino/Kiba length)--about the first three posts, and then I'll pick a fourth that amuses me from what's left.

Be warned that I've been stressed. Stress = time to torture characters. Just, y'know, keep it in mind. ;)

Things I know about:
Comics--Batfolk, Teen Titans, X-folk, Ultimate folks.
Naruto--all

Anything else--
ummm. Tanya Huff books? ;)

um um um... Ibiki (pleasedon'thitmeilikehim) and Neji. yes, i have a strange strange brain. it doesn't have to be romantic (don't really see how it could). I just think there is great potential for them as characters knowing each other.... ^^;

heh, and I don't think anyone could do them romantic without it being total and utter crack-spoof (though if someone was magical enough to pull that off, they'd be the supreme-being of fic-writing... or smoking something that puts them in contact with gods, demons, and edgar allen poe and H.P. Lovecraft's unholy love-child)

I haven't really commented on anything here yet, so you don't really know me (I commented on a chapter or two of Mirrors, but it was anonymous because I was too lazy to sign in). And I know you've already got your first three, and Kakashi x Spiderman would certainly be an amusing fourth, but I thought I'd add my little two cents anyway.

At this point, you're welcome to skip the rest of the comment (it's almost more of a commentary) and just read the bold part. It's the particularly relevant point, anyway.

I remember reading a little while back about how you like House and were looking for fanfiction. I was curious what people had come up with, so I looked up that post of yours and followed a link in the comments. (I just happen to be obsessed with House at the moment.) However, as I was reading the fanfics, it occurred to me that House-the-series/fandom is completely wide-open to the "helpless-and-angry-and possibly-disabled-and-completely-reliant-on-his/her-doctor-for-everything!Patient falls in love with the I'll-take-care-of-you-and-I'll-fix-you-and-you'll-be-eternally-grateful-and-I'll-be-out-of-character-for-caring-(especially-if-I'm-House)!Doctor" kind of abuse. It makes sense, really, since they're all doctors, and car accidents/cancer/other random medical events happen even to doctors, so they all have the potential to become patients. It's arguably the easiest way to introduce a non-colleague relationship between them, even if I think it's a cheesy and unimaginative way to introduce a romantic relationship. Not that making one of them a patient can't be done, of course, because it would be an interesting way to gain some characterization. However, it's too reminiscent of the Bad!Nurse cliche to be of any practical use in any but the most skilled hands. (Your hands would probably be up to the task, if you felt like it. You managed to pull off Iruka trying to kill Naruto, anyway, and made a completely anti-social Kakashi make friends without it being too slow, too fast, or too cliched, so I imagine you can pull off anything you put your mind to.)

So, with that being said, my preference would be a character piece with House and Wilson being just friends (because as much as the idea of them being more than that intrigues me, I think just friends is best for both of them right now). And if you don't mind, neither of them (and none of the other characters, for that matter, unless it's really necessary to the plot) can have an accident, etc. and become the patient. If that's too boring (although "just" is such an over-used, underestimating word, because "just" friends can be very fascinating), you could add some romance, but I'm requesting no smut. Not that I don't enjoy reading a good bit of smut, and not that I don't think you'll do it well (you do!), but 1) although I'm sure you could make it work well (you always have before, that I've read), smut has a funny tendency to ruin good character pieces, and 2) I need to spend less time reading smut.

Oh, and just my little interesting side-note, which is probably going to be a little longer than a typical side-note (TMI!!!): I first got interested in Naruto not by reading the manga or watching the anime, but by reading the fanfics of my dear, dear friend [info]midnightdiddle (she's the one that got me started on KakaIru, before I could even remember what "Kaka" and "Iru's" real names were). Shortly thereafter, upon her recommendation, I read Butterfly in Reverse by [info]dragon_bite and Side Effects by [info]messypeaches, both of which seem to involve, if not center around, Kakashi "torturing" his students under the guise of "teaching." It was after all of that that I saw my first episode of House, so you can (possibly) forgive me for being absolutely gleeful to see that House does exactly the same thing (okay, similar) to his little underlings. Think about it: a quirky, slightly antisocial teacher/doctor and his team (who are constantly annoyed by him). There are even two boys and a girl, and the girl has a crush. So, the short version of the story is that Naruto-the-series and House-the-series are inseparably connected in my head.

Why that was relevant: I don't write fanfiction. Every once in a while, I think I ought to try it, but with examples like yours and [info]midnightdiddle's (and that girl really knows how to characterize!) and the other Naruto greats, and with my critical perfectionism for myself, I never quite get up the courage. (That, and I haven't figured out how to something original with the characters. I just admire what others have done.) But, back to the point, I've been thinking that some sort of Naruto/House crossover would be fascinating, taking into account the similarity between their teams. I don't know how someone would do it, and since I have no original ideas of my own on how to do it (except that I want it done), I would never ask someone else to come up with a fic that does it, but . . . If you ever had any brilliant ideas along those lines . . . Could be interesting.

Sorry, that was WAY too much information. [info]midnightdiddle always says I'm taking her to Africa when we're just trying to get next door, and after reading this, I suppose it's true. Not that I intend to cut anything out after spending this much time writing it. It's too late at night to bother with that.

I, unfortunately, can top this idea.

I went to Anime South in Destin, Fl, this weekend, where I met a girl named Sarah. The two of us proceeded to spend most of the weekend doing improvised "One minute Fanfics," where you give us any pairing, het, slash, yuri, gen, and if you want, a situation, and we act it out in front of everyone.

The Kakashi/Jiraiya that someone up there asked for? Yeah, we did that. My favourite was Vash from Trigun fighting Spike from Cowboy Bebop over who was a better marksman- Donuts were a required mention. But we seriously wrote everything.

But if you want a random pairing: Yondaime/Hatake Sakumo is the best obscure pairing I've ever heard.

*laughs* We used to do that when I was in the x-fic fandom... there were a bunch of us here in SoCal, and we'd get together fairly frequently and end up doing those kinds of things. :D Kinda hard to do when everyone's online, though! ;-D
